December 9

Religion:   We will have our Advent Prayer Service next Friday at 8:40. Mrs. Thornton's class is in charge of Mass on Wednesday. We will continue our mini unit on the Works of Mercy. On Friday we will go to the computer lab to make word clouds using words pertaining to the Works of Mercy.
Writing: Next week we will be finishing up our unit on personal narratives. We will work on editing our writing and turning it into a final draft. Each child will present his or her work to the class. Our next grammar lesson will be on verbs.
Math:  Unit Four will wrap up next Thursday. Monday and Tuesday are teaching days, Wednesday will be a review day, and Thursday is the test. Please continue to work on basic facts with your child. The basic facts for addition and subtraction should be mastered at this point. We will start learning more games to help memorize their multiplication facts.
Spelling: Week Eleven - sounds of ea in mean / head and syllables -cion,
-sion, -tion. The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: Students will be discovering and learning about 6 different themes that symbolize our "American Spirit" (Courage, Hard Work, Diversity, Liberty, Honor and Equality). Students will be using My Maps to find the location of their person/place that symbolizes a particular American Spirit. Students will also share their American Flags that contain information about their person/place.

Comprehension: We are working on making inferences in reading. The third graders are asked to be detectives while they read so they can find clues. Next week we will read the trade book Boundless Grace and will discuss how to describe the main character's personality.
