January 27

Religion:   Next week is Catholic Schools Week! Our theme for the week is "Celebrating with Gratitude." Please refer to the email from Mrs. Hade for all of the fun activities the students will participate in next week.
Writing: We are continuing to work on our fiction unit. Next week we will study an author and his writing process. Our grammar lesson will be on subject verb agreement.
Math:   Unit Six continues next week. The students will be reviewing and learning a lot of vocabulary pertaining to geometry. Some of the main concepts will be polygons, angles, lines and line segments, rays and turns.
Spelling: Week Sixteen - sounds of oo (took & moon) / verb endings. The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: Students will be working on their Invention posters this week. A reminder that the PLANNING SHEET is due on Monday, January 30. We hope to see you at our Invention Convention on Friday, February 3 from 12:15-1:00!

Comprehension: We are continuing to work on wondering and questioning. The third graders will listen to narrative texts and practice sharing their thoughts with one another. We will continue to meet with students in groups as well as individual conferences.

January 20

Religion:   Next week in religion we will continue our focus on parables. They students will get the parable they will focus on assigned to them. They will be creating a small poster in their group and then presenting it to their classmates.
Writing: We are continuing to work on our fiction unit. We will be focusing on using our words to describe the characters in our stories. Our grammar lesson will be on verb tenses.
Math:   Decimals will be a focus up to the thousandths place. Monday will be our last lesson of the unit. We will review on Tuesday and then have the Unit Five test on Wednesday, January 25.
Spelling: Week Fifteen - sounds of oo (took & moon) / verb endings. The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: Force, Motion and Simple Machines! Students will continue learning about the 6 Simple Machines - Lever, Inclined Plane, Screw, Wedge, Pulley and the Wheel and Axle. A reminder to save the date for our Invention Convention on Friday, February 3 from 12:15-1:00!

January 13

Religion:   Next week in religion we will focus on parables. We will read the Parable of the Mustard Seed together. The students will be assigned to a small group and then given a parable to read. They will be creating a small poster in their group and then presenting it to their classmates.
Writing: We are continuing to work on our fiction unit. We will be practicing how to choose descriptive words to help our reader picture our story. Our grammar lesson will be on verb tenses.
Math:  Unit Five continues next week with place value. We have been working very hard on making sure the students can read large numbers correctly. Decimals will be a focus up to the thousandths place.
Spelling: Week Fourteen - sounds of ou (round & could) / possessive nouns. The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.

January 6

Religion:   Next week in religion we will focus on the Epiphany. The students will be using their Bibles to read about The Magi and use the information to fill out a fill-in-the-blank from the Bible verses. We will also focus on the Baptism of the Lord and discover our roots in Baptism from the Bible.
Writing: We started to work on our fiction unit. Next week we will work on developing characters. We will also be learning about the different types of fiction that we can write. Our grammar lesson will be on linking verbs.
Math:  Unit Five continues next week with place value. We have been working very hard on making sure the students can read large numbers correctly. Decimals will be added to the mix toward the end of next week.
Spelling: Week Thirteen - sounds of ou (round) & ow (cow) / changing vowel sounds in plurals (foot - feet). The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
