March 31

Religion:   Our Lenten season continues next week. We will be having prayer services throughout the season. The next one will be on Tuesday, April 4 at 2:45. The third graders will continue to focus on the Stations of the Cross during the next few weeks.
Writing: We are continuing our unit on Opinion Writing. We will be using transition words to connect our opinions and reasons. Our grammar lesson will be on Writing Book Titles.
Math:   Unit Eight continues next week with fractions. We will be looking at using a number line for fractions, equivalent fractions and exploring fractional relationships.
Spelling: Week 23 - R Controlled Vowels (ear in bear & earth)/ Suffixes (-able, -ly, -ward). The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: PLANT Unit - Students will be needing seeds from a fruit for an observation with homework that will be due on Tuesday. Students will be learning more about seed dispersal and the life cycle of a plant.
Comprehension: This week we presented our Reader's Theater plays to second grade. Next we are going to start a whole class book, Stone Fox.

March 24

Religion:   Our Lenten season continues next week. We will be having prayer services throughout the season. The next one will be on Monday, March 27 at 8:45. Third grade is in charge of this service if you are interested in attending. The third graders will continue to focus on the Stations of the Cross during the next few weeks.
Writing: We have officially started our unit on Opinion Writing. We will be studying persuasive essays and discuss how they are set up. Our grammar lesson will be on Formal and Informal English.
Math:   Unit Seven wraps up next week with a test on Tuesday, March 28. When this unit is complete the students will be expected to start memorizing their basic multiplication and division facts. The expectation is that they have these down by the end of the year. Unit Eight will focus on fractions. We will start with naming parts of a fraction on Wednesday. The students will also be using tangrams to develop fractional and spatial relationships.
Spelling: Week 23 - R Controlled Vowels (eer,ear)/ Prefixes (dis, im, mis, un). The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: PLANT Unit - Students will be planting their own seed and observing it during this unit! Students will be identifying the parts of a seed and what plants need to survive.
Comprehension: We are continuing to work on Reader's Theater. Our goal is to make our reading sound like our talking. Next we are going to start a whole class book, Stone Fox.

March 10

Religion:   Our Lenten season continues next week. We will be having prayer services throughout the season. The next one will be on Monday, March 20 at 2:50. The third graders will continue to focus on the Stations of the Cross during the next few weeks.
Writing: We will be presenting our author reports after spring break. Then we will begin a unit on opinion writing. Our grammar lesson will be on adverbs and adjectives.
Math:   Unit Seven continues next week. The third graders will focus on the extended facts for multiplication and division, estimating costs and exploring ratios. When this unit is complete the students will be expected to start memorizing their basic multiplication and division facts. The expectation is that they have these down by the end of the year.
Spelling: Week 21 - R Controlled Vowels (er, ir, ur)/ Prefixes (mid, pre, re, tele). The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: SPACE & MOON UNIT - Students will continue learning about the moon: how it causes tides on earth and the different phases of the moon. Students will also learn about solar and lunar eclipses.
Comprehension: We are working on Reader's Theater. Everyone has been assigned a part to practice. The goal is to make our reading sound like our talking.

March 3

Religion:   Our Lenten season continues next week. We will be having prayer services throughout the season. The first one will be on Monday, March 6 at 8:45. The third graders will focus on the Stations of the Cross during the next few weeks.
Writing: We are researching various authors in third grade. The students have used books and Chromebooks to learn all about a famous author. They will be constructing a three paragraph piece to show what they have learned. Our grammar lesson will be on adverbs.
Math:   Unit Seven continues next week. The third graders will focus on the multiplication/division chart, basic facts and using parentheses correctly in number sentences. When this unit is complete the students will be expected to start memorizing their basic multiplication and division facts. The expectation is that they have these down by the end of the year.
Spelling: Week Twenty - Contractions/ Sounds of a & al (in water and walk). The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: SPACE & MOON UNIT - Students will start learning information about Earth's closest neighbor - the moon!
Comprehension: We are starting to work on Reader's Theater. Each student will be assigned a part to practice. The goal is to make our reading sound like our talking.
