Religion: Next week the kids will focus on the country of Cuba. Our mission for April will go to Caritas, which is a Catholic organization that works in many different countries to follow the mission of the Catholic church to help others. They have a branch in Cuba that has served the people there.
Writing: We have officially started our unit on Poetry. We will be looking at various poems to learn all about their characteristics. Our grammar lesson will be on Commas in Addresses.
Math: Unit Nine continues next week with multiplication and division. The students will be using mental math strategies to multiply, exploring arrays, and learning the partial-products multiplication algorithm. These multiplication strategies will probably be new to most families, so please use the Everyday Math website to see how these strategies work if needed.
Spelling: Week 26 - R Controlled Vowels (oor, oar, our) / Suffixes (-er, -ist, -an). The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words. You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: Rain Forest Unit - Students will starting learning more specifics about Rain Forests: Climate/Rainfall, locations around the world, the specific layers, and the animals that populate each.
Comprehension: We have finished reading the book Stone Fox. Talk to your children about the bittersweet ending. Next week we will wrap up this unit before moving on to learning about context clues.
