May 19

Religion:   Next week we will wrap up the students' slides on their family tree. They can work on this from home using our google classroom. We will also be focusing on all of the Sacraments of Initiation. Our last Rosary will be on Monday at 8:45.
Writing: Next week we will complete our final unit in writing. We will be exploring functional writing. This includes writing directions to explain to others how to do something.
Math: We will be teaching a few lessons from both units ten and eleven after that. The students will be taking a third trimester assessment over all of the concepts from this trimester on May 25.
Spelling: Week 30 - Sounds of the Syllable Cer (water) / silent consonants wr, wh. The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it. Our last spelling test is next Friday!!
Science/SS: Rain Forest Unit - We will review for a quiz on the Rain Forest and then test on Wednesday, May 24. On Thursday the students will learn about the Integumentary System.
Comprehension: We will be continuing to learn how to use context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words. We will be working on this over the last few weeks.

May 11

Religion:   Next week we will focus on family trees. We will read about the Jesse Tree in the religion book. Your child will bring home a blank family tree on Tuesday for them complete at home by Thursday. It is a pretty simple one, but we need your help to spell the names correctly. They will be going to the computer lab on Friday to make an electronic family tree.
Writing: Next week we will begin our final unit in writing. We will be exploring functional writing. This includes writing directions to explain to others how to do something.

May 5

Religion:   Next week we will focus on the gift of grace. Third graders will read about this wonderful gift and then they will complete an activity to help them understand its meaning.
Writing: Next week we will finish our poetry unit. The students have enjoyed exploring the freedom of expression with these lessons. Our grammar lesson will be on Reviewing our last four lessons.
Math:   Unit Nine continues next week with multiplication and division. The students will be exploring arrays, equilateral triangles and strength of paper. They will also learn a form of partial products multiplication using a "bow-tie." These multiplication strategies will probably be new to most families, so please use the Everyday Math website to see how these strategies work if needed.

Science/SS: Rain Forest Unit - Rain forest animal research continues and students will start putting information onto a Research File Folder to present to class. Be looking for a Research Notes Sheet to come home for editing this weekend!
