December 15

Religion:  Our third Advent Prayer Service will be on Monday, December 18 at 8:45. Mrs. Thornton's class is in charge of Mass on Wednesday, December 20. The students will also participate in a prayer service and sing along on Thursday morning.
Writing: We have been working on creating paragraphs in writing. We have talked about using a topic sentence as well as supporting sentences.
Math:  Unit 5 focuses on place value with larger numbers and decimals. We will be focusing on the millions for the next few days with different activities. The students will also participate on their third STEM activity of the month. Ask them which one they liked the best!

Spelling: No Spelling Next Week
The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: We are starting our forces, motion, and simple machines unit. The kids will participating in many hands on activities throughout the unit!
Comprehension: This week we worked on making inferences. We will continue to do this next week as well. The students have been told to act like detectives while they read and look for clues.

December 8

Religion:  Our second Advent Prayer Service will be on Monday, December 11 at 2:45. On Tuesday our third graders will participate in the sacrament of Reconciliation. We will be preparing them for his on Monday. Mrs. Drey's class is in charge of Mass on Wednesday, December 13.
Writing: Grammar Lesson - Review Week - Pronouns & Possessive Nouns
We have been working hard on our special project. We have been working on creating a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
Math:   Our 4th Unit will wrap up on Tuesday, December 12 with an assessment. They will review for this on Monday. Wednesday we will start Unit 5. This will focus on place value with larger numbers and decimals.

Science/SS: Students will continue with the unit entitled The American Spirit. Students have been researching a person or place that has helped shape and link us together as Americans today. The key ideals of Liberty, Equality, Courage, Hard Work, Diversity and Honor will be a common thread to all of these people and places. Students will present their information to the class in the form of an American flag.
Comprehension: This week we continued to work on making inferences. We read the book Boundless Grace and we discussed the main character's personality. We used clues from the book to help us come up with specific words to complete this task.

December 1

Religion:  We will begin having our Advent prayer services next week. The first one will be on Monday, December 4 at 2:45. Also, our Mass time for next week has changed to Friday, December 8th to celebrate the Immaculate Conception. Mrs. Pamperin's class in in charge of that Mass. We will be learning more about Mary in the Bible to be prepared for it.
Writing: Grammar Lesson - Noun / Pronoun Agreement
We will finish our unit on personal narratives by presenting our writing to the class. Then we will begin a special project that will be presented to you soon.
Math:   Your child has multiplication/division fact triangle to study. They have learned a lot of different strategies to help with understanding multiplication and division as well as strategies to help them memorize their facts. They will be doing more explorations with arrays next week, finding distances, and finding areas of rectangles using multiplication.
