April 13

Religion:  Next week we will have a theme of "Start with Hello." The students will be doing different activities related to this national week. Below are the themes for each day:
Monday - "Smile Power"
Tuesday - "Kindness is the New Cool"
Wednesday - "No One Eats Alone"
Thursday - Be an Upstander"
Friday - "Respecting Diversity"
Writing: This week we focused on diagramming sentences with adjectives for our Mentor Sentence. We also started an author study. Each child was assigned an author to learn about. We read biographies and did research in the computer lab.
Math:  Unit 9 continues next week. The focus remains on multiplication and division. Although there are no graded timed tests for multiplication and division, the students are encouraged to get the basic facts memorized. They will be learning different strategies for multi-digit multiplication problems.
Spelling: Week 24 R-Controlled Vowels (ar, air, are) / Suffixes (less, ful, like)
The spelling section of the website contains all of the weekly lists and the choice words in case your child misplaces their words.  You can also find a copy of LSCW if you need it.
Science/SS: Students will begin a new unit on Rainforests. Students will be learning about the different forest ecosystems, with focus on the rainforest. Students will also identify special characteristics of animals and determine the class they belong to.
Comprehension: We are working on a nonfiction text feature unit. This week each child has learned about the various features and how they help us understand and learn more about the subject.
